The Durham Pack
Dr. Claire MacLeod, Philodox
Dr. Claire MacLeod walks the razor’s edge between saving lives and ending them. She grew up traveling the world with her archaeologist uncle after her parents were killed in a car accident at the age of five. She became a doctor using the GI Bill in the US Army where she served as a combat medic and triage surgeon during Desert Storm. She has a private practice in Holly Springs, NC and volunteers at the local hospital’s ER unit. She is a widow and her children are grown and scattered to the four winds. As an older member of the pack she takes on the role of den-mother to the younger cubs. She is equal parts reserved and destructive, bringing her judgement and fury to those who break Gaia’s laws. MacLeod is a member of the Black Furies Tribe.
Remy Turner, Theurge
Remy Turner has been equal parts nature lover and technophile her entire life. She grew up building PCs and puttering around with programming, the child of an IT support engineer and a part-time teacher. A graduate of NCSU with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Forestry, she brings her dual background to her grant-funded position (from the Albrecht Foundation) as Piedmont Regional Manager of the NC Kinfetch Network. Comprised of equal parts spirit and real-world technology, she is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Network’s nodes in the Triangle and surrounding areas. When a kinfetch spirit alert is reported to the Network by a cockroach, bee, squirrel, or other spirit, Turner is responsible for gathering and coordinating the cub intervention team if the alert is local to the Piedmont Team. Turner is a member of the Glass Walker tribe.
Heretic, Ahroun
Heretic, a Red Talon lupus, is a child of change, of desperation, and most dangerous of all, of hope. The hope to save that last of his kind, the Red Wolves. Many of his Tribe still cling to the Old Ways, that all homids are bad. Heretic argues that this very notion is driving his Tribe to extinction, and this argument is what earned him his name, Heretic. Heretic is part survivalist, part animal rights activist. He makes his living teaching wilderness survival camps at Fang and Fur Survival Camp, his compound in the woods outside of Chapel Hill. These camps function on nothing more than utter basics for gear, such a knife and flint, perhaps a flashlight. No GPS, or other fancy technology are used in his camps, as in the wild technology will fail. His teaching is by example, he is patient but firm, as he wishes to pass on not only how to survive but how to protect and respect Gaia. Those who refuse to listen are asked to leave, or are bodily thrown out, as needed. Jack (his ally) is his CFO who keeps his business running legally. By night Heretic hosts werewolves, kinfolk and activists alike to raise funds, stage rallies, and sometimes rescue Red Wolves. He is willing and able to fight with fang and claw to protect his kin, but he knows that his actions alone are not enough. Heretic knows that he needs to make enough homids care about Red Wolves in order for the Red Wolves to be able to survive.
Teufeljager, Ahroun
Teufeljager comes from a long line of Get of Fenris warriors who protect the Black Forest in Germany. After his first change, he was going to follow that tradition, but his family was destroyed by a mysterious creature. He began delving into the darker corners of the Umbra, hunting monsters trying to find the thing that murdered his family. Ultimately he found he had more in common with the Uktena. He has lost the trail of the beast that he has long hunted, and found himself adrift without a purpose. He has chosen to find a place he is needed, and has joined a sept in the United States that he hopes can use his talents.
Bryan Miller, Galliard
Bryan Miller is a fixer, a fighter, an activist and an artificer. He grew up on a farm in Wake County, but his mom jokes that he was raised in a junkyard. After his expulsion senior year for adding tractor tires to the principal’s Honda Civic, he enlisted in the Marines as a service technician. In 2018, when his regiment was ambushed, Bryan was wounded. He received a Purple Heart, an honorable discharge, and trouble sleeping. He finally bought his own junkyard in North Durham where he lives with his dogs Waddles and Gompers. Bryan is a contracted physical penetration tester for FireEye (a cybersecurity company), and writes for CrimethInc. Southeast (an anarchist collective and record label). Bryan is proud to call himself a Bonegnawer.
